From an early age Chef Egill was eager to help in the kitchen, his favorite place has always been in front of the stove at his grandma´s house. At the age of 15 he won a chef competition at his high school, this was the first competition of its kind and is now a popular contest held yearly around high schools in Iceland. Winning the competition inspired young Chef Egill and helped him make up his mind, he was now determined to become a chef. He enrolled into Basic Culinary classes in the fall of 2005 and he worked in various kitchens during school breaks and Holidays and he was able to spend a valuable month at his uncle´s kitchen at the prestigious Hotel Borg, Reykjavik, Iceland. Chef Egill did his apprenticeship at Perlan Restaurant, Reykjavik, Iceland and upon graduation in December 2008 he got a job in Norway as a chef at a large conference hotel, Hotel Bolkesjö. He was soon promoted to sous chef. In September 2009 he went to Denmark and worked as a sous Chef at Restaurant Navigator in Aarhus, which is a classic Danish cuisine mixed with new Nordic style restaurant, 1 year later he went back home to Iceland to first start working as a chef at a highly rated fishing river, Hofsa in Vopnafjordur. In November 2010 he started as chef at The Icelandic Bar and Restaurant where he still works today.
