Luísa was born in Monte Real, Leiria, Portugal and her true passion has always been cooking, whether for family and friends or for restaurant goers.
After travelling widely in Europe, East Africa, Morocco, Mexico and Malta, Luísa has built up an extensive and sophisticated knowledge of food preparation In 1998, Luísa professionally debuted as a chef by opening her own restaurant, Tachos de São Bento. in Lisbon. The project was a huge success, resulting in consulting offers at other restaurants and television appearances. Luísa and her restaurant was featured in French Elle magazine as one of the New Tables of Europe.
Although Luísa was enjoying a gratifying level of success in Portugal, her ultimate goal was moving to New York City. Luísa pursued that dream in 2004, left everything behind and traveling to New York. Even though she did not speak English and arrived with no introductions her skills were evident and within 15 days opf landing at Kennedy airport, Luísa had a job as pastry chef in the well regarded Portuguese restaurant, Alfama. Her stylistic innovations led to awards from televised cooking competitions.
