Robert A. Engel, Jr., a self taught chef, was born in Queens and raised on Long Island. Always interested in cooking, he spent much time in the kitchen with his grandmother recreating as well as altering her traditional Italian 'recipes'. At 15, Mr. Engel took a job working in a local deli, Farmdale Farms, and continued there through high school. He went onto graduate from Nassau Community College with a degree in Applied Sciences. From there he continued to RIT, but only for a year until he realized that his true passion was in the kitchen. Upon returning to Long Island, he was hired as the Manager of Retail Services by Mangia Gourmet Catering. While there, Mr. Engel was able to expand his creativeness through experiencing menus from around the world. Always interested in increasing his knowledge, Mr. Engel worked as an off-site chef for Elegant Affairs Catering from 1993 to 2001. It was here that he met and worked under Executive Chef, Scott Schneider. In 1995, Mr. Engel opened his first business, transforming a general yogurt shop into a cafe serving lunch, dinner and catering. In 2006, he opened a second location and expanded his menu to include breakfast. His plans for the future include the continued growth and expansion of his business. Mr. Engel currently resides on Long Island with his wife and three children.
