Directions
- Heat oil on a skillet
- Add cumin seeds
- When seeds start to pop, add finely chopped onion and mix well
- Once onion becomes lightly brown, add garlic and ginger paste and mix
- Add water (less than a cup)
- Add tomato puree and mix
- Add salt, turmeric, cumin, garam masala and coriander powder and mix
- Add water (less than a cup)
- Add chili powder or paprika, chili powder will add some kick to the mix, for a milder flavor add paprika
- Add water (less than a cup)
- Add the chickpeas
- Add water and fresh cilantro
- Let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes
- Once the sauce thickens, it is ready
