Description

Chana Masala is a classic vegetarian Indian recipe featuring chickpeas and spices. This spiced chickpea mixture is delicious, served with basmati rice, raita and naan.


Ingredients

  •  As Needed Oil

  •  Pinch Cumin Seeds

  • 1/4  Cup(s) Onion, chopped

  • 1  Table Spoon(s) Garlic Paste

  • 1  Table Spoon(s) Ginger Paste

  • 4  Cup(s) Water

  • 1/2  Cup(s) Tomato Puree
  • 7
  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Salt

  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Turmeric

  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Coriander Powder

  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Cumin Powder

  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Garam Masala

  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Chili Powder or Paprika

  • 2  Each Chick Peas, 15.5 Oz cans

  • ¼  Tea Spoon(s) Fresh Cilantro

Directions

    1. Heat oil on a skillet
    2. Add cumin seeds
    3. When seeds start to pop, add finely chopped onion and mix well
    4. Once onion becomes lightly brown, add garlic and ginger paste and mix
    5. Add water (less than a cup)
    6. Add tomato puree and mix
    7. Add salt, turmeric, cumin, garam masala and coriander powder and mix
    8. Add water (less than a cup)
    9. Add chili powder or paprika, chili powder will add some kick to the mix, for a milder flavor add paprika
    10. Add water (less than a cup)
    11. Add the chickpeas
    12. Add water and fresh cilantro
    13. Let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes
    14. Once the sauce thickens, it is ready
    15. Serve and Enjoy!
