Description

A great homemade buttermilk biscuit recipe where even the buttermilk is made from scratch. They are nice and fluffy, your friends and family will love you for making these biscuits.


Ingredients

  • 4  Cup(s) Flour
  • 1
  • 6  Table Spoon(s) Baking Powder
  • 2
  • 1  Table Spoon(s) Salt
  • 3
  • 1  Table Spoon(s) Sugar
  • 4
  • 2/3  Cup(s) Shortening
  • 5
  • 2  Cup(s) Buttermilk
  • 6
  • 1/4  Cup(s) Butter, unsalted, melted
  • 7
  •  Pinch Salt
  • 8

Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
    2. In a bowl whisk flour, baking powder, salt and sugar
    3. With your fingers, lightly crumble in shortening until the mixture is coarse
    4. Add buttermilk and with a fork mix until just moistened
    5. Turn out dough onto floured surface and roll to 1/2'' to 3/4'' creating a loose square shape
    6. Line two 1/2 sheet pans with parchment paper
    7. Cut into squares approximately 1-1/2'' x 1-1/2'' and place spaced evenly onto parchment lined pans
    8. Bake in oven for 18 minutes rotating pans at 9 minutes

    Homemade Buttermilk

    Ingredients

  • 2 Cup(s) Milk
  • 2 Table Spoon(s) Vinegar
  • Directions

    1. Add ingredients together and let sit for 5 minutes
