Candied Sweet Potatoes are one of the best Thanksgiving dishes around! Sweet potatoes caramelized in the oven with brown sugar, butter, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg.


  • 4  Each Sweet Potatoes

  • 2 1/2  Cup(s) Brown Sugar

  • 8  Table Spoon(s) Butter
  • 3
  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Nutmeg, ground
  • 4
  • 2  Tea Spoon(s) Cinnamon
  • 5
  • 2  Each Lemons, juiced

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
    2. Place potatoes on a baking dish and roast in the oven with skin on for 35 minutes
    3. Remove from oven and let cool to handle
    4. Cut ends off and peel skin off
    5. Cut potatoes into thirds lengthwise
    6. Butter a baking dish and layer bottom with half of the potatoes as flat as possible
    7. Sprinkle with half of the brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
    8. Dollop half of the butter over all of the potatoes then pour half of the lemon juice all over
    9. Cover with another layer of potatoes and repeat with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and lemon juice
    10. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 55 - 60 minutes, basting every 20 minutes with the juice from the baking pan
    11. Remove from oven and baste one last time, the liquid should not be syrupy
    12. Serve and enjoy!
