Description

A great condiment for hot dogs and hamburgers, also a wonderful addition to any salad.


Ingredients

  • 1  Cup(s) Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1
  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Kosher Salt
  • 2
  • 1/2  Cup(s) Granulated Sugar
  • 3
  • 1  Each Red Onion, large
  • 4
  • 2  Each Bay Leaf
  • 5
  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) Peppercorns
  • 6
  • 1  Tea Spoon(s) White Pepper
  • 7
  • 1  Table Spoon(s) Lemon Juice, fresh
  • 8
  • 3  Cup(s) Water
  • 9

Directions

    1. Peel red onion, cut into thin slices or rings.
    2. In a pot on medium high heat, add vinegar, salt, sugar, bay leaf, peppercorns, white pepper and lemon juice.
    3. Increase heat to high and let boil.
    4. Add sliced onion.
    5. Turn heat down to medium, boil onions for 5 minutes.
    6. Remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes or more.
    7. Take contents of pot and pour into a plastic container, let cool to room temperature.
    8. Chill onions in liquid for 24 hours.
    9. Remove onions and reserve for later use.
