This German side dish is so simple and goes great with everything. A mix between a boiled dumpling and pasta. Great sautéed with butter and herbs.


  • 3  Cup(s) Flour
  • 1
  • ½  Tea Spoon(s) Salt
  • 2
  •  Tea Spoon(s) Nutmeg
  • 3
  • 4  Each Eggs
  • 4
  • 1 1/2  Cup(s) Water
  • 5
  • 1/2  Cup(s) Parsley
  • 6
  • 1/2  Cup(s) Water, room temperature
  • 7


    1. In a mixing bowl, add flour, salt, parsley, nutmeg, water and eggs
    2. Ensure all ingredients are mixed well (reserve 1/2 cup of water if needed)
    3. With a large pot of salted boiling water, use a spaetzel cutter or a box grater to cut or drop the spaetzel into the boiling water
    4. Stir spaetzel to keep it from sticking
    5. Once spaetzel floats to the top, cook for another minute and remove spaetzel with slotted spoon or spider
    6. Before serving, saute spaetzel in brown butter
    7. Season with salt and pepper and top off with chopped herbs to your liking
